Probably the most successful silicone hydrogel contacts is the new Acuvue Oasis. Another very popular silicon lens is Acuvue Advance by Johnson and Johnson. Acuvue Oasys is the newest silicon hydrogel contact lens, and deserves a strong favorable mention. Because it is produced from an improved material know as senofilcon A and provides extreme comfort for people with dry and sensitive eyes.
The majority of contact lens manufacturers have several versions of daily disposable
contacts. The most popular disposable lenses are 1 Day Acuvue and Focus
Dailies.
Lenses which are FDA approved for extended wear, like Acuvue 2 or
Focus Night and Day, are safe when you follow your doctor's instructions. They are quite
comfortable for wearing several days in a row, unless you have very sensitive eyes.
The main problem with extended wear contact lenses is that because you don't
have to clean them every day, tiny particles of dust can accumulate on them which causes eye iratation.
Acuvue 2 Colors by Johnson and Johnson is also a desirable lens. Acuvue 2
Colors produces opaque color lenses, for individuals with darker eyes, as well as
enhancement lenses, for light colored eyes. Acuvue 2 Colors are 1-2 week disposable
color contact lenses. They are also FDA approved to be used for a week
continuously, which means that you can easily sleep in them.
Recently made available, 1 Day Acuvue Colors are the first daily disposable color
contact lenses. They appear the same as Acuvue 2 Colors opaque color lenses,
but you don't have to be concerned about cleaning, disinfecting and storing them. 1
Day Acuvue Colors are ideal for individuals who only want to wear color contacts
for special occasions; this way, you can wear new colored lenses every time.
For patients who experience eye dryness with their contacts, eye doctors will regularly
recommend contacts made with newer, moisture-retaining material. These kinds of contact
lenses include Proclear® Compatibles by CooperVision and Acuvue® Advance™
with Hydraclear by Vistakon. In fact, Vistakon has
recently introduced the Acuvue® Oasys™ with Hydraclear, which is primarily
targeted for individuals who regularly experience contact lens dryness.
When you compare the price of Acuvue 1 Day and Acuvue 2 (successful daily and
2-week disposable contact lenses), daily lens would cost you about two times as
much, from most retailers. Yet, you should bear in mind that while using daily
disposable contact lenses, you will not need to buy storing and cleaning
solutions. Additionally, if you wear phone lenses only 3 or 4 times a week, the
cost would probably be even less.
